In 2016, aged 17, Jess Gillam made history as the first saxophonist to win the Woodwind Final of the BBC Young Musician competition. She then reached the Grand Final and performed Michael Nyman's "Where the Bee Dances" with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at London's Barbican Hall to critical acclaim.

Engagements this season include the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Manchester Camerata, Northern Chamber Orchestra and Bath Philharmonia. Jess gives recitals throughout the UK, including a tour of Scotland and her debut at London's King Place, and collaborates with musicians including John Harle, Snake Davis and Steve Lodder.

Over the last year Jess has appeared as soloist with Southbank Sinfonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Sinfonia Cymru and made her BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall, performing with both the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Recital highlights included performances at the Mananan, Beaminster, Swaledale and Cheltenham festivals.

Jess studies with Rob Buckland at the Royal Northern College of Music and is mentored by John Harle. As well as her passion for performance, Jess is keen to promote live music and she has been running an annual concert series in her hometown of Ulverston for the past six years.
